From 30 September to 2 October 2025, the second edition of the Nuclear Regulation School was held in Borovets, оrganized by the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (BNRA) in partnership with the Center of Nuclear Competencies Kozloduy.
Twenty four students from Bulgarian universities took part in the training. The lecturers were specialists from the BNRA, university professors, representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, Kozloduy NPP – New Build, the State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SERAW), as well as experts from the regulatory authorities of the United States, Poland, and the Czech Republic.
During four training sessions featuring numerous presentations, discussions, and group exercises, participants explored topics related to the licensing of innovative nuclear projects, advanced nuclear technologies, international regulatory experience, and various regulatory aspects from the operators’ perspective.
The program also provided insight into the IAEA’s initiatives and projects on licensing innovative nuclear technologies, as well as the experience of the Polish, Czech, and U.S. nuclear regulators in this field.
Combining theoretical preparation and practical exercises, the format of the initiative offered participants valuable experience in the field of nuclear regulation. The main goal of the school is to encourage students and young professionals by providing training aligned with national, European, and international requirements and best practices.
