The first school on “Radioactive Waste Management” was held between 14-16 May 2025, with the participation of seventeen students and three professors from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and Technical University of Sofia. The event is a joint initiative of the State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SE RAW) and The Center of Nuclear Competencies Kozloduy, targeting students enrolled in relevant academic programs at both universities and realized in line with the National Strategy for Human Resource Development in the Nuclear Sector.
On the first day of the School students visited a part of SE RAW facilities at Kozloduy – the Turbine Hall, Control Room of Unit 2, the Clearance and Release Measurement System, the Control Room of the Size Reduction and Decontamination Facility, the Radiochemical Laboratory and the National Disposal Facility for Radioactive Waste. The next two days was the theoretical part of the event and it was held at the SE RAW Information Centre, where experts provided comprehensive presentations on topics such as the types, classification and management approaches for radioactive waste, the goals, activities, challenges and international experience in decommissioning, radiochemistry and radionuclide monitoring, underground research laboratories, the National Disposal Facility for Radioactive Waste, the unified information model and the use of “live data” in the decommissioning process and others.
